There’s nothing nicer than a hot cup of coffee to help you get going in the mornings and we have all been told to have a cup of coffee about an hour before going to the gym - but have you ever thought about what it may do to your mind and body? The news is good! Here is a snapshot of the benefits of coffee:


Coffee can increase our energy levels and helps to combat tiredness. The reason for this is its caffeine content. Caffeine is a stimulant which blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. This improves energy levels and lifts your mood!


Coffee helps us burn fat. This again is due to its caffeine content. Caffeine has been proven to aid in fat burning by boosting the metabolic rate.


The caffeine in coffee has been known to improve our physical performance. It stimulates the nervous system which causes signals to be sent to the fat cells telling them to break down body fat. However, it also increases the “fight or flight” hormone, Epinephrine (aka Adrenaline) which makes us ready for immediate physical exertion.


Coffee contains essential nutrients - just 1 cup provides:

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 11% of the RDA.

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5): 6% of the RDA.

Manganese and Potassium: 3% of the RDA.

Magnesium and Niacin (B3): 2% of the RDA.


Studies show that coffee may lower the risk of Type 11 Diabetes. Type 11 Diabetes is very prevalent in society today and is on the increase. One cup of coffee a day has been linked to lowering the risk by roughly 4-7%.


Coffee is a large source of antioxidants. It is possible to get more antioxidants from coffee than fruits and vegetables combined.


We recommend intermittent fasting in our programs, so during the fasting hours, you can drink black coffee without it affecting your insulin levels. You can add up to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, butter, Ghee (clarified butter), heavy whipping cream, medium-chain triglyceride oil, whole milk, and even ground cinnamon or nutmeg to taste. This can lift you during a fast if you start to feel a bit sluggish.


So there you have it! In our society today, coffee could well be one of the healthiest options for a drink!
